About Me

My name is Maarten, and through Weus Animal Connection, I help people and animals understand each other better and build a deeper connection based on trust.

My way of working has grown from my own experiences with animals. I have discovered how much can change when we stop trying to control or direct an animal, and instead learn to truly be present and listen to what the animal is communicating.

For me, connection begins with calmness. When we are able to slow down and be present in the Present Moment, we create space for the animal to do the same. From that place of calm, trust can grow and a form of cooperation can develop that is not based on control, but on mutual understanding.

I mainly work with horses and dogs. Every animal is different, with its own personality, pace and story. That is why I follow the animal and always look at what it needs in that particular moment. There is no rush and no fixed approach that works the same way for every animal.

What touches me most in my work are the small moments when you notice that something is changing. An animal that was tense begins to relax. A horse chooses to come closer by itself. A dog feels safe enough to let go. Or the moment when you become so connected and attuned to each other that words and physical aids are almost no longer necessary.

That, to me, is true connection.

I believe that trust cannot be forced. It has to be built, step by step, with respect for the animal and its boundaries. From that foundation, I help both animals and their people find greater calm, trust and a deeper connection with one another.

A Deeper Connection – through Trust and the Present Moment.

My Experience with the Trust Technique

Years ago, I was first introduced to the Trust Technique. The way these techniques help both animals and people find greater calm, trust and connection immediately appealed to me. Through working with these techniques, I have experienced how quickly both animals and humans can discover new ways of communicating and working together.

In my work, I always follow the animal’s pace. I look at what the animal needs in that particular moment and give it the space to learn and relax at its own pace. This often allows positive changes in the relationship between animal and human to happen quite quickly.

Through my practical experience, I have found that behavioural and communication issues, both in the animal and in the relationship with their person, can often improve within a relatively short period of time. In just a few sessions, a great deal can be achieved when both animal and human learn to understand each other better and begin to work together from a place of trust.

For me, it is therefore not simply about changing behaviour. It is about creating a lasting connection based on trust, calmness and mutual understanding.

Be Present. Build Trust. Create Connection.
